With ear correction surgery, also known as otoplasty, we reposition the ears closer to the head for a more balanced and symmetrical appearance. At Ageworth Clinics, otoplasty is performed under local anesthesia by a plastic surgeon with over 25 years of experience. The procedure takes approximately 60 minutes, and is suitable for both adults and children from the age of 7.
Every treatment begins with a personal consultation. During this appointment, your physician will assess the shape and position of your ears and listen to your concerns and expectations. Based on this, a custom treatment plan will be created, focused on achieving a natural, symmetrical outcome. If you’re ready, the procedure can often be scheduled right after the consultation.
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia. A small incision is made behind the ear to access the cartilage. The surgeon reshapes and repositions the cartilage so that the ears sit closer to the head. The incision is then closed with fine sutures, hidden in the natural crease behind the ear. A supportive bandage is applied to protect the ears during healing.
You may experience mild swelling or discomfort for the first few days. A headband must be worn day and night for the first week to maintain the new ear position. After one week, the stitches are removed. Avoid sleeping on your sides, and refrain from strenuous activity for at least two weeks. Complete recovery and final results are usually visible within 6 weeks.
Ear correction is a permanent solution. Once healed, the ears retain their new position for life in most cases.
